Build Diary 12-March-06

Started fitting top cowl to the fuse today - Sunday. Pleased with progress went quicker and better than I expected.

Here I am checking the position of the spinner. Mark location on the wood then rotate prop and check the spinner stays pointed in the correct location
Starting to fit top cowl

Spacer block to align top of cowl with spinner.
Space around flywheel.

I had to fit the top skin, as this aligns the firewall, and dictates the cut on the cowl.
Here I am aligning the top cowl sides with the fuse.

I used a powerfull lamp under the cowl to show the cut line.
Tidying up the flanges around the flywheel/spinner. Took sometime.
Oil door and cut line.
Jo turned up and started to take pictures while I was fitting the hinge around the top of the cowl.
I found the .02 shim kept the cowl and skin in line.

Hey, do you like my new prop?
I did fully fit the hinge. Then discovered the firewall holes were not quite in line with the skin. So I used a punch and some drills to pull the two into line.
The cut! However I found the cowl had crept towards the spinner. I was aiming for 3/8 gap. The largest. It has dripped to 2/8. I want the larger gap as this will have covers that need to be fitted behind the spinner. Another builder advised me not to make it too small.
